Garmin Fit Details File

There seems to be an issue with new garmin fit files that are being uploaded from by forerunner 255M software v27.09 various information is not being shown. Analyzing the fit file in fitfileviewer.com shows the information is still there. AI is suggesting to me that the format of some fields has changed.

The fields that are no longer coming across for me are recovery time, performance condition, sweat loss and V02Max Estimate. It seems for VO2Max Estimate that the data format has moved from a 16 bit unsigned integer to a 32 bit signed integer, the same with sweat loss potentially. The other changes I'm less clear on.

mynt I took a look with your latest files and don't see that the values are visible at fitfileviewer.com - For older ones I see the data in the session.

What interesting is on your latest activity (I tried to debug it) - Garmin doesn't let me upload the activity to their platform. Something seems be strange with it

https://www.fitfileviewer.com/ reports issues with that fit file and Garmin is not able to process that file too. So I guess there is something broken in their firmware

I wonder if this issue is related, but I noticed (started yesterday) that Garmin Fit files that are imported automatically don't show certain info in Runalyze (e.g. VO2max (by file), Recovery time, GCB etc) .... however deleting the activity in Runalyze and uploading the fit file (downloaded from Garmin connect) seems to resolve the issue (with one quirk ... the Title of the activity is blank).
This is for running activities - and it could be that the fit file Runalyze receives through the API is different from the one manually downloaded from Garmin Connect.

The title is not part of the fit file. Little bit strange that the fit file is different.

If someone has the same problem: download and save the original file from Runalyze, delete the activity and upload the file from Garmin Connect. If possible provide both files (michael@runalyze.com)

It seems like the API provides a different file currently than the Garmin Connect (or they fixed something in between)

mipapo I thought of doing exactly that, but I had already deleted the original fit file pulled in by Runalyze. Will have to wait for tomorrow's activity to do this. Will email them both to you once I finish my run

I have a similar issue with Garmin data imported via their API - recovery time, performance condition, and Garmin's Vo2max estimation are missing. If I export an activity manually as a FIT file from Garmin Connect and import it manually into Runalyze all data shows up.

It started on Tuesday. No recent firmware updates on my watch, also manual import of FIT file works. So I believe Garmin changed their API.

I've tried exporting the fit file from Garmin Connect and reuploading and confirm that fixed the issue for that activity. I've also emailed both versions of the fit file to @mipapo as requested.

I think I may have reconnected runalyze to garmin recently. I can't remember the exact reason why I did this or whether that would be relevant.

Also I am having a similar problem with intervals.icu

mynt Reconnecting shouldn't change anything. I didn't get another response yet with the example files and hints I've send them, but I guess they are one it. That's one thing I like about Garmin: they are very responsive to problems

What we can tell so far:

Newer devices are not affected
The Garmin API responses with different FIT files always. (not just since Monday)
Older devices using the FIT Protocol Version1.0, Garmin API always returns the Protocol Version 2.0
Newer Devices use Version 2.0. Data seems is still available in the Fit file we get from the API

We've sent these information to the Garmin team

I have exactly the same issue. The last time I got the VO2max estimate by file was on March 5th. On March 7th, the stat disappeared and since then has not reappeared in the activities listed

nightfox Same pattern. Your watch is a little bit older and needs a conversion on the Garmin API from protocol version 1.0 to 2.0. They have done it before, but there seems they have changed something. (I hope unintended)

I've written a long debug mail to Garmin with all details and obversations.

On a side note, my Forerunner 255S Music, program version 27.09 does deliver the VO2max (from file). Runalyze is connected directly to Garmin and imports automatically.

I don't know where I can check which FIT protocol mine is using though.
